OKLAHOMA CITY — Applications are now available for Oklahoma fifth-grade teachers interested in receiving a fellowship to attend the 2009 Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute June 9 through 16 in the restored capital city of 18th-century Virginia.

Oklahoma City teacher Heather Sparks was named the 2008-09 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year today at a ceremony held at the Oklahoma State Fair. Sparks, an eighth grade algebra and pre-algebra teacher at Oklahoma City's Taft Middle School, was selected for the position from among more than 150 local Teachers of the Year and 12 finalists from across the state.

Winning With Asthma

Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Jari Askins launched the Winning With Asthma statewide campaign Monday, September 8.  The campaign kicked off at Nathan Hale High School’s East Side Stadium in Tulsa.

Winning with Asthma is an online program that trains coaches, physical education teachers and others in asthma management.

Founded in Utah and Minnesota, the “Winning with Asthma” program was created so coaches could learn about asthma, how it affects an athlete’s ability to compete, and how they could help athletes manage their symptoms while playing their best.
