Darryl has lived in Ada, OK most of his life. He attended public schools in the area and graduated from Byng Public Schools. He attended East Central University where he received a B.S. in Mass Communication. He later received his M.S. in Learning Disabilities and is certified in five areas including school principal/administrator.

Darryl was in retail for over 13 years with more than half of those years spent in a management role. He then received his teaching certificate in 1996 and taught at McAlester Public Schools for one year, followed by 13 years of teaching at Byng Public Schools.

While at Byng, he founded a POE local chapter. Starting with nine members in 1997, it has grown to over 40 members under his leadership. In 1999, Darryl was elected Vice President of POE. Then, in 2002, he was elected President and served two terms.

In 2009, Darryl became a director at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada. He is married to Mary, who teaches at Homer Elementary School in Byng, and they have two children, Anna and Gage. His family is very active with the First Baptist Church of Ada.
