ABOUT TIVY:

In summary, TIVY is very compatible with Oklahoma's Academic Core Curriculum in all levels of math from 2 + 2 through algebra. Its instructional rulebook is bilingual (English-Spanish), in a quick-to-learn, adequately illustrated, easy to follow format.

TIVY is a teaching tool in the form of a motivational board game. It requires students to learn basic math if they are to be successful in estimating the score value of moves and figuring the final tally of their scores to determine the winner.

Eleven (11) elements of basic math, in addition to estimation, are stressed: addition • subtraction • multiplication • division decimals • fractions rounding • square root powers • factors • algebra

Furthermore, TIVY features five (5) very crucial elements of successful education: strategy • critical thinking • responsibility • attitude • motivation

TIVY was designed for, and is well suited for, all students (below average, average, and gifted). When they are in the same classroom, the instructor may easily select different skill levels for each group from the well marked and defined 228 play combinations ranging from 2+2 through algebra. TIVY's score sheets are well organized and detailed to accommodate any skill level. Most students can practice, use the score sheet and define the outcome with a minimum of instructor help.

The TIVY game box and playing parts are very durable. There are thousands of games that have been in schools since 1992 and most are still in good usable condition.

Recommended usage: use TIVY at least two periods each week and make games available to students during free periods and to take home. TIVY provides continuing practice and review of essential mathematics and develops the critical thinking and strategic planning skills used in finding alternative solutions in other subject areas as well.
