2008-09 Teacher of the Year

Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Ceremony Tuesday, September 16, 2008 Professional Oklahoma Educators served as an event sponsor for this special ceremony, which honored local Teachers of the Year, the state's twelve finalists, and the Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year. Collins Writing Program

In May and July of 2007, Professional Oklahoma Educators hosted Dr. John Collins, creator of the Collins Writing Program. Dr. Collins' training program - "School Improvement and the Collins Writing Program" is proven to increase student learning and increase test scores without overwhelming teachers with piles of additional paperwork. Collins' program teaches educators how to incorporate writing into every day classroom activities across the curriculum. Collins uses five different types of writing assignments to assess student learning. His grading system aids in classroom management and assures that teachers are not overwhelmed by paperwork. The workshop was held at the historic Skirvin Hilton hotel in Oklahoma City. Professional Oklahoma Educators was proud to bring Dr. Collins and his program into Oklahoma for the very first time!

2007 Excellence in Education Merit Awards Banquet

The annual Professional Oklahoma Educators Excellence in Education Merit Awards Banquet is an outstanding event that recognizes and rewards Oklahoma's outstanding educators in five categories: Elementary teacher, secondary teacher, special education teacher, administrator and non-certified staff. Nominees are honored with a special meal made possible through the generous contributions of individuals and businesses who support excellence in education. After the meal, this year's guests were treated to an address from keynote speaker Dr. Barbara Christmas. During the ceremony, each award nominee is presented a commemorative plaque, and the five winners are then announced. Each winner receives a beautiful award, bouquet of roses, $500 check from the Professional Oklahoma Educators Foundation, a legislative citation, and a one-year complimentary membership to Professional Oklahoma Educators.
